What is a computer aided translation and a machine translation?
- Computer-aided translations (or CAT) are done by a human being who translates, but with computer support to facilitate his task. The translator uses so-called "translation memory" software. This translation memory allows the storage of parts of sentences as well as the equivalent of these parts in another language in order to reuse them.
- Machine translations are translation executed by one or more computer programs, without the intervention of a human translator. To make good quality machine translations comparable to those of human translators is still impossible.
Why should I not use machine translations?
- For the moment a machine translation is not a acceptable alternative to a human translation.
- Make a simple test: ask automatic translation software to translate a page of a French text into English, and then ask it to translate the English text it has created back into French. The result is on the whole very weak, if not incomprehensible.
- As those who have lived a long time in a foreign country know, using a language is not just a matter of pure logic. Even the best machine translation software does not manage to build whole sentences without errors in meaning, syntax or vocabulary.
What is the difference between a technical translation and a literary translation?
- Technical translation concerns documents such as textbooks, technical sheets, minutes, financial reports, and other documents intended for those who are directly concerned with these documents. Our technical translators have a perfect command of their mother tongue and a thorough knowledge of the source language. What is more, they have the technical know how that enables them to understand one or more technical fields.
- Literary translations demand stylistic skills, a good imagination and extended cultural knowledge. o Urgency of the delivery: fees are increased by 30% for urgent deliveries.
- The fee for rereading and corrections is normally half of the word fee for translation. Exception: highly technical documents or those that are destined for top international organizations.
How do you calculate the fee for a translation?
- Fees for our translations are calculated in euro fractions per word of the source languages (the language of your document).

How do I do a word count of my document?
- Open your document that needs translation in .doc. Go to Tools in the tool bar and click on Statistics. In the window that opens up you will see the number of words of your document.
- We do a word count automatically in all current formats (MS Office, PDF, etc. ).
What are your delivery periods?
- The normal delivery period is determined by the number of hours or days needed by a single translator to translate your project. Please note that there is of course a limit to the number of words that he can translate per day.
- Traductoris.com calculates the delivery period on the basis of 1500/2000 words translated and reread per translator per day.

What are your selection criteria for a translator for each project?
- We choose the translators from our database whose mother tongue is the language into which document is to be translated.
- Among these we select the translator who has long-standing expertise in your speciality, who lives in the country, or region in which you use your documents and who has a thorough understanding of the culture and languages in which he works.
- If your document is of strategic importance, we make sure that it will be re-read and corrected by another translator who has proved to be highly capable.
How do you guarantee the quality of a translation?

Why reread and correct a translation?
- In accordance with the European standard referring specifically to translation services (NF EN-15038:2006), the quality of a translation cannot be guaranteed without a rereading by a third person.
- Translation and verification: a qualified translator translates the documents and checks his own work once the translation is completed.
- Rereading: a person other than the translator reads the translation again.
